🎁 Happy Holiday Season, Baking Buddy! 🎁

Maybe you've started watching Christmas movies every night or playing festive music on your daily drive. Perhaps your home is adorned with sparkling lights and a beautifully decorated tree, or you're way ahead of me and already have every gift wrapped.

Or mayyybe you haven't done any of it yetβ€”and that's perfectly fine, too.

However you’re celebrating the season, I hope you'll find a little time to bake cookies. There’s something magical about creating sweet, edible memories during the holiday season.

One of the best ways to celebrate is with a cookie swap! Everyone brings a batch of 48 cookies and everyone goes home with an assorted collection of 48 cookies! It takes away the hassle of baking multiple cookie batches and gives you the perfect excuse to see your friends. Peak holiday joy!

πŸͺ Christmas Cookie Baking List

This year, we're baking a few tins of cookies and keeping gifts simple. We'll freeze the baked cookies in airtight containers until we're ready to gift them. Here's what we're baking:

And for Santa? Always my Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. We mix up a batch, roll into balls, freeze, and bake off fresh whenever the craving hits- no extra dirty dishes needed!

From timeless classics to creative twists, my collection of 40 Christmas Cookies has something for everyone. View the full holiday cookie roundup here!

πŸ“¦ How to Ship Cookies This Holiday Season

Cookie gifting is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. Learn how to package and ship cookies perfectly to avoid breakage, plus a list of my favorite cookies that will survive shipment!

Ensure your treats arrive fresh and intact with these tips:

  1. Choose sturdy cookies: Think shortbread, biscotti, or gingerbread. Avoid delicate or overly soft varieties.
  2. Wrap with care: Use parchment, cupcake liners, or wax paper between cookies and bubble wrap for cushioning.
  3. Pack snugly: Fill any gaps in the box with crumpled paper to prevent shifting.

Bonus Tip: Include a note with storage instructions to keep your cookies at their best!

🎨 Decorating Cookies Made Simple

Whether you’re crafting gingerbread masterpieces or colorful sugar cookies, here are the basic recipes for decorating and designing cookies:

For Cut-Out Sugar Cookies:

For Cut-Out Gingerbread Cookies:

Use candies like gumdrops, crushed peppermints, mini M&Ms, or sprinkles for decorating alongside icing to add texture and dimension.

Pro Tip: Use gel food coloring for vibrant hues without altering the icing’s consistency.

✨ SECRET INGREDIENTS: My 3 MVPs

These three ingredients consistently take my cookies from good to exceptional.

1) European Butter

Try swapping your usual butter for Kerrygold (or any European style). Why it works:

  • Higher butterfat (82–85%) = richer flavor + more tender cookies
  • Lower water content = better structure and no excess spreading
  • Creamier texture = silkier dough

Just note: European butter softens faster at room temperature.

2) Quality Vanilla

A great vanilla makes a huge difference in simple cookie doughs. Vanilla beans or vanilla bean paste can easily be used in place of vanilla extract in recipes where vanilla takes the main stage.

3) Popcorn Salt

This year’s discovery! Unflavored popcorn salt is just ultra-fine salt that dissolves 2–3x faster than standard table salt, giving you:

  • Better distribution
  • More balanced flavors
  • Smoother doughs

And yesβ€”salt plays a massive role in sweetness balance, dough structure, and even baked-good freshness. Here's the salt I use.

πŸ¦ƒ Recipes We Loved for Thanksgiving

A few dishes that were absolute standouts at our table this year:

Killing Thyme's Apple Cider Turkey Brine - it was so easy to make, we let our 12 pound turkey brine in the fridge for 72 hours... perfection!

Julia Child's Garlic Mashed Potatoes - I was skeptical when the recipe said 30 cloves of garlic, but by the time everything was cooked, the garlic taste was perfect.

Shweta's Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Brussels with pecans and cranberries... my sister-in-law brought this dish and is was repeat-worthy in every way.

🌟 One last thing... Did our recipes find their way onto your Thanksgiving dessert table?

We'd love it if you could leave a starred review for the recipe you made so that others can find it, too!
